Just back from another of those creative collegial rehearsals that mark this play. Brilliant! Our lives buzz furiously in the background but for two hours we live Peter and Jerry’s fraught encounter, then by degrees we leave the rehearsal space and take on all our other roles. The language is delicious and each one of us has a different ear – Albee is a wonderfully economical writer and unpacking this play is like emptying Pandoras box – but nothing is evil – we empty it of  wicked insights – the characters are jam packed with them.

Must have a look at correlations for the research proposal I’m writing – I have come to accept the fact that for me stats will happen on a strictly need to kow basis.

Up late … again.

Ken is reconfiguring our old website – to be blunt I never really took to it. But when this company was being born early last year we were so inundated with imperatives that minor details were – minor. This site is easier to look at and I hope you get a chance to browse the theatre resource links – they are pretty good. Right now the resources for The Zoo Story are in Current Production on the side bar. The review by James Roe is an elegant piece of writing, although not really useful as any kind of a model for review writing at Stage 2 or IB level. I love Bunji’s artwork for this show. Rehearsals are taken care of for the next week – we are hoping to get up to page 23. Nick reckons he’s learning as many lines as he did when he played Macbeth – and Bob raises an eyebrow in the friendly smirk that makes me smile. It’s a great crew. I’ll keep you posted regarding our progress. We’re rehearsing at St Johns now. There is only so much Albee madness that you can respectably inflict on your neighbours.  Nick growling, Bob yelling, “POLICE” and my enthusiastic, “Yes that’s it! More like that, yes more!”, while Ken politely offers coffee and wine from the back verandah might get controversial even in Rapid Creek.
